A Table Lamp of French Style

The Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co continually add to their range of antique and vintage lighting. Recently acquired is a table lamp of French style, an opaline glass lamp made by one of the most famous makers in France, the Sèvres factory.

Sèvres, about 10 km from Paris, was founded in 1740 under the patronage of Madame de Pompadour and the factory has continued to produce a remarkable range of porcelain and glass ever since.

Our featured lamp, engraved with the Sèvres name, was made between 1890 and 1900. The glass, known as opaline glass, was first produced in 1800. Opaline glass is opaque or slightly translucent with a high lead content which makes it a "semi crystal". All opaline glass is hand blown, there are no seams and the finished piece is hand polished.

The Antique and Vintage Table Lamp Co are well known for their high end silk lamp shades and our highlighted lamp is shown with a new original lampshade design, "The French Silk Trellis". Butter yellow silk overlaid with ivory silk crosshatching, the shade lined in ivory silk.
