Antique Table Lamp

A very rare and tall, English, table lamp produced by the Minton factory.

The lamp of elegant proportions,
the shape derived from classical Greek vase shapes.
The lamp decorated in the neo-classic revival movement style
of the 1870-1880 period, known as the French Second Empire revival.
This constrained decorative style looking back to the
Napoleonic First Empire with its Greek and Roman classicism.

The lamp with a French dry blue ground
and decorated in polychrome enamels.
The lamp carefully drawn with two Greek classical figure subjects
derived from the Homeric legends of Troy.
The front of the lamp finely enamelled with the subject of
The Greek hero, Hector, Prince of Troy,
farewelling Andromache before his single combat with Ajax.
The reverse side of the lamp with the subject of
Hector telling Andromache of his decision to challenge Ajax to mortal combat

The lamp on a fine socle
mounted on a circular stepped base in turned, gold plated bronze.
The lamp cap of turned, gold plated bronze.
