A large and stunning, late 19th century,
Japanese, Fukagawa vase as a table lamp.
The lamp fluted and enamelled with a two colour palette
of sky blue and iron-red.
The two colour palette of Kakiemon type
so much favoured by the Japanese decorator.
The lamp divided into four panels,
two principle highly decorated sides, in-the-white and freely painted
with large five clawed dragons, symbols of Imperial power.
The dragons appear suspended above large
open branches of prunus blossom.
These two dramatically painted sides
divided by two long panels in sky blue.
The blue panels composed of evenly divided squares
of stylised flower heads.
The lamp with a turned and gilded bronze, drum shaped cap.
The lamp supported on a very finely carved Japanese,
antique rosewood, lotus shaped stand.
